Hundreds of local motorists will fill Willis Avenue again this year on the evening of Friday, May 21 at 6 p.m. in a shag-the-drag celebration of the Perry High School Class of 2021.
Congratulatory signs will line the Willis Avenue boulevard downtown to honor the seniors, and donations are sought
“It was such a fun experience, driving down Willis and seeing all of the pictures of our seniors last year,” said Paula Schnittjer Nelson of Perry, one of this year’s Senior Sign organizers. “It would be a great tradition to carry forward for years to come!”
The Senior Sign project came about last year when Perry boosters were brainstorming ways to celebrate the Class of 2020 seniors and make their graduation special even though COVID-19 made it very different from what they expected. The Class of 2021 has been similarly unsettled.
“The PHS Class of 2021 has reached their goal: Graduation!” said the Senior Sign donation website. “This is your opportunity to show them how you feel about them and that you want to help make their graduation special. Please take this opportunity to donate to help cover the cost of these signs! Several levels of participation are available.”
All funds raised beyond the cost of the signs will be used by the PHS junior class to help defray the cost of this year’s PHS Prom. For more information, call 515-465-4271.
