The Perry Public Library’s second annual Take Your Child to the Library Day delighted Perry-area families with children Saturday with balloon animals, face painting and a visit from a guest animal. The event promotes good reading habits for the whole family, so parents were encouraged to get their children library cards, and each child took home a free book.
With its rather forbidding acronym, TYCTTLD, the annual Take Your Child to the Library Day aims to raise community awareness about the importance of the library in the lives of children. TYCTTLD was created in 2012 by Connecticut librarians Nadine Lipman and Caitlin Augusta and has become a nationwide event in February.
Because the goal is a healthy mind in a healthy body, various Perry-area services, such as the Perry Child Development Center, McCreary Community Building, Swanson Dental Care, the Dallas County Hospital and others, tabled at the event and shared resources with attendees.
The Perry Public Library’s participation in the annual event dates to 2015, and Children’s Librarian Suzanne Kestel said attendance at this year’s second annual event was strong.
