One Hundred+ People for Perry will hold its second quarterly gifting meeting Monday, May 23 at 7 p.m. at La Poste LLC.

The recently formed charitable association, One Hundred+ People for Perry, will meet Monday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. for a second round of giving to worthy local causes.

The group consists of local residents and community supporters committed to supporting Perry’s not-for-profit projects. Three randomly selected projects are presented at each meeting, and the members of 100+ People for Perry choose one project to fund with a $100 donation from each member.

One Hundred-Plus People for Perry currently boasts about 60 members, so the winning project stands to land about $6,000.

The group’s first beneficiary was Project Sleep Space at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, which was chosen at the February meeting. The Sleep Space project ensures that all Perry children have a comfortable and warm place to rest by providing free bedding and blankets and even beds when needed.

One Hundred-Plus People for Perry member Becky Reuter of Perry pitched the project to her fellow members, explaining the money would be used to purchase the bedding and blankets and build shelving to store them. Reuter said leftover funds would be used to help families buy beds.

According to the group’s statement, “The mission of One Hundred+ People for Perry is to invest in Perry’s future through supporting current charities/non-profits/worthy projects which advance the quality of life.”

One Hundred+ People for Perry plans to make four large donations yearly, with contributions staying wholly within the local community. No national charities will be considered. Recipients of the tax-deductible donations must be a charity or , non-profit corporation with a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt status. Other worthy causes must be  sponsored by a 501 (c)(3) group.

The quarterly gatherings are held at La Poste LLC, 1219 Warford St. in downtown Perry.

“The intent of this group is non-political,” according to its statement of principles. “No donations to political campaigns and/or causes will be made.”
