Seek shelter from storms at public warming centers

In anticipation of the life-threatening cold temperatures expected to reach central Iowa this week, the Dallas County Public Health Department and the Dallas County Emergency Management Department have designated the following public buildings in Adel, De Soto, Perry, Van Meter and Waukee as warming centers where people can escape the dangerous weather. Heat seekers should expect to find few or no services beyond what is normally available in the buildings.

The following facilities are designated as warming centers during normal business hours:

Perry Public Library, 1101 Willis Ave.

  • Monday-Thursday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Adel Public Library, 303 S. 10th St.

  • Monday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monitor local media for closure. Will close if school closes.
  • Thursday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

De Soto Public Library, 405 Walnut St.

  • Monday-Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday: 1-6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Van Meter: Van Meter Public Library, 505 Grant St.

  • Monday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Thursday: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Waukee Public Safety Building, 1300 S.E. L.A. Grant Parkway

  • Monday-Friday: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
