U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders will speak Monday at noon at the McCreary Community Building theater. He is the first presidential hopeful to visit Perry.

Republicans and Democrats seeking their parties’ nominations as candidates in the 2016 U.S. presidential election have yet to lead their campaigns to Perry, but this will change Monday when U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) speaks at the McCreary Community Building theater at noon.

“I’m the one that booked it,” said Jean Dowd, MCB office associate. “They called us. I think they are using one of the same production companies that Obama did, and we had a pretty big Obama event here before 2008, so the company that ran their stuff probably gave them our info.”

The Iowa Caucuses will be held Feb. 1 at 7 p.m., when voters from all 1,774 Iowa voting precincts meet to elect delegates to the Republican and Democrat county conventions. From the 99 county conventions, delegates are chosen for the state party conventions, which in turn elects delegates to attend the national party conventions, where presidential nominations are decided.
