A Perry man was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly punching a woman and striking her with a broom handle.
Benito Ramirez Jr., 40, of 2665 Summer Meadows Dr., Perry, was charged with third or subsequent offense domestic abuse assault.
The incident began about 1:45 p.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of Eighth Street, were officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.
The female victim told the officers that Ramirez allegedly “punched her in the face with his hand” and “used a broomstick to hit her left forearm,” according to court records.
The officers observed that the victim “had a mark on her left cheek” and complained of “injuries on her left forearm,” according to court records.
A witness corroborated the victim’s claims, according to court records.
Ramirez is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 14 in Dallas County District Court.
Ramirez was convicted of assault causing bodily injury in 1998 in Tama County District Court. He was convicted of domestic abuse assault without intent of causing injury in 2003 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of third or subsequent offense domestic abuse assault in 2005 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault causing injury in 2012 in Dallas County District Court.
