Seven cooling centers opened around Dallas County


With the heat advisory in effect until Wednesday night and with highs rising into the middle 90s and heat index values expected to range from 104°F to 109°F by Wednesday afternoon, cooling centers have been opened in the following libraries and public safety buildings in Dallas County:

  • Perry Public Library-1101 Willis Ave., Perry
  • Adel Library-330 S 10th St., Adel
  • Dallas Center Library-1308 Walnut St., Dallas Center
  • DeSoto Library-405 Walnut St., DeSoto
  • Minburn Library-618 Fifth St., Minburn
  • Van Meter Library-505 Grant St., Van Meter
  • Waukee Public Safety Building-1300 S.E. L.A. Grant Parkway, Waukee

The hot and humid conditions will continue across the southern reaches of Iowa Thursday, but some relief is anticipated north of U.S. Highway 34.

Practice heat safety by remaining hydrated, taking breaks in the shade or AC and avoiding strenuous activities during the afternoon. Please remember to look before you lock.
