Seven Hawks earn All-WCC softball recognition

WOODWARD — The West Central Conference recently released their All-WCC softball teams, with a septet of W-G players recognized for their efforts in conference games.

Dalaney Bice was chosen as First Team pitcher. She was 8-3 in the ring with a 3.14 ERA but excelled at the plate, where she slugged 1.137, hit .510 and had an on-base percentage of .583. The senior had 26 hits, including five doubles and nine home runs while driving in 25 runs and scoring nine times. Bice is fifth on Iowa’s all-time career home run list with 54.

Also chosen for the First Team was senior outfielder Carli Major, who hit .425 with three doubles and a home run among her 17 hits. She scored 11 runs and drove in 16.

Junior catcher Maggi Mallon also grabbed a First Team spot. She hit .469 with a .519 OBP. Mallon had 13 RBIs, scored 10 runs and had 23 hits, including three doubles.

Senior first baseman Meagan Bandstra hit .411, drove in 12 runs and scored three times to secure Second Team placement. She had eight doubles among her 23 hits.

Also on the Second Team was junior outfielder Bree Lesch, who had 11 singles and five doubles while driving home 11 runs. She scored 10 times and finished with a .340 average in WCC play.

Riley Jamison (.409, 18 hits, five doubles, a triple and a home run with 12 RBIs and seven runs) and Miranda Aunspach (.352, 19 hits, five doubles, a triple, 12 RBIs and 12 runs) were both selected for Honorable Mention listings. Both are part were juniors this year.

The Hawks are coached by Noah Bean, with Dave Smeltzer assisting. They finished 20-13 overall and 13-3 in WCC play, trailing only 2A state champion Van Meter.
