Several medalists for Perry cross country at Greene County meet

JEFFERSON — Three Jayette and two Bluejay cross country runners earned individual medals Saturday at the Greene County Invitational.

Perry’s Jaylene Karolus was fourth overall in the girls race, with Julie Maylum 13th and Amy Diaz 18th. Fithawi Andemichael crossed eighth for the Perry boys, with Yonas Andemichael finishing 13th.

West Central Valley was first among six teams in the girls varsity competition with 65 points, with Denison-Schleswig second at 71 and Perry third at 78. D-S won the boys side with 57 points, with Greene County second at 59, IKM-Manning third at 61, Southeast Valley fourth at 69, and Perry fifth at 93.

Karolus finished in 22 minutes, 25 seconds, with Maylum done in 25:12 and Diaz in 26:31. Mercedes Ponce was 21st for Perry in 27:03 and Taryn Nehring 22nd in 27:06 to complete the varsity scoring, with Mylah Meis (23rd, 27:07) and Laurine Calamy (36th, 33:31) also running for the Jayettes.

Lola Menlick of D-S was the girls winner with a time of 21:04, with Grace Slater of Audubon second in 21:49 and Chasey Rowen of WCV third in 21:55.

Fithawi Andemichael crossed in 19:31 and Yonas Andemichael in 20:03 to pace the Perry boys. Gannon Meis (20th, 21:01), Jonathan Chavez (24th, 21:31), and Owen Myers (28th, 22:01) also scored for the Bluejays, with Jose Chavez (32nd, 23:15) and Bryce Anliker (39th, 24:32) making the circuit as well.

First for the varsity boys was Leo Flores of D-S (17:49), with runner-up honors earned by Logan Woodruff of Greene County (18:25).

Mason Hoffman (24:38), Renzo Saenz (24:4), Aiden Carlson (24:47), and Kyle Hernandez (25:21) were in action for the Bluejay junior varsity.

A two-mile middle school race was held for both boys and girls harriers.

Lily Myers was second overall for Perry in 14:31. Amalie Canales finished in 21;1, Fiorella Oliver in 21:22 and Rosa Pineda in 21:23, with Lydia Hochstetler (22:48), Aleah Karolus (22:51), Iliana Ledesma (22:52), Sofia Saenz (22.53) and Amelia Carter (34:2) also running for Perry.

Thad Stuart (14:31), Gavin Leslie (14:44), Kyeo Augustine (17:01), and Angel Rodriguez-Molina (20:05) competed for the Perry middle school boys.
