The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Polk County and southeastern Dallas County and northwestern Warren County until 8:45 p.m.
At 7:54 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was located over Urbandale, moving southeast at 15 mph.
The storm is producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, with hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding and trees predicted.
A flash flood warning has also been issued for Polk County, western Jasper County and southeastern Dallas County until 11 p.m.
At 7:55 p.m. Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms were producing heavy rain across the warning area, with up to 2 inches of rain already fallen.
Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, according to the NWS.
A severe thunderstorm watch for the Perry area also remains in until 11 p.m.
