The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 9 p.m. Saturday for southern Dallas and northwestern Madison counties.
At 8:25 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was located over Earlham or 11 miles southwest of Adel and moving northeast at 40 mph.
Wind gusts of 60 mph and penny-size hail are reported, the NWS said.
Hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding and trees are expected.
Cities impacted include West Des Moines, Urbandale, Clive, Waukee, Grimes, Adel, Dallas
Center, Earlham, De Soto, Van Meter and Dexter.
The severe thunderstorm warning area includes Interstate 80 between mile markers 97 and 120.
