The city of Perry activated its storm sirens at 8 p.m. Wednesday during a severe thunderstorm warning that will last until 9:15 p.m.
At 7:30 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 6 miles southwest of Gray to 7 miles southwest of Guthrie Center to 5 miles northwest of Macksburg, moving east at 50 mph, according ng to the national Weather Service offices on Johnston.
The storms are producing 60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail.
Along with Perry, cities affected by the severe thunderstorm warning include West Des Moines, Urbandale, Clive, Waukee, Grimes, Winterset, Adel, Audubon, Greenfield, Guthrie Center, Stuart, Dallas Center, Earlham, Panora, De Soto, Van Meter, Lake Panorama, Avenue of the Saints Event Center and Jordan Creek Town Center.
