Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday

DES MOINES — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 6 a.m. Wednesday for the Perry area and portions of central Iowa.

Thunderstorms are likely Tuesday night, according to the NWS, with an enhanced threat of severe storms, including large hail and damaging winds.

Locally heavy rainfall is also possible.

Thunderstorms will remain in the forecast through Thursday night and again Saturday and into next week, the NWS report said.

The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Dallas County and the following Iowa counties: Adair, Audubon, Boone, Calhoun, Cass, Crawford, Franklin, Greene, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hardin, Humboldt, Jasper, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Pocahontas, Polk, Poweshiek, Sac, Story, Tama, Warren, Webster and Wright.
