Severe thunderstorm watch until 1 a.m. Monday

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 1 a.m. Monday for the Perry area.

A line of thunderstorms is moving across Iowa overnight Sunday, bringing primarily a threat of damaging winds, mainly along and west of U.S. Interstate 35, where the NWS has placed a slight risk for severe weather.

The storms are anticipated to weaken overnight as they move east of Interstate 35, where a marginal risk for severe weather exists.

Along with Perry, the cities under the severe thunderstorm watch include Adair, Adel, Atlantic, Bayard, Bedford, Boone, Casey, Corning, Creston, Earlham, Fontanelle, Greenfield, Guthrie Center, Jefferson, Lennox, Mount Ayr, New Market, Panora, Stuart, Waukee and Winterset.
