Perry motorists will take to Willis Avenue from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday to celebrate the PHS Class of 2020.

Hundreds of local motorists are expected to fill Willis Avenue from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday night in a shag-the-drag celebration of the Perry High School Class of 2020.

Congratulatory banners and signs will line Willis Avenue and Second Street, and senior jerseys will be on display along the fence outside Dewey Field on 18th Street.

PHS seniors can also swing through the circle drive at the high school for more surprises.

With gasoline nearly as cheap as it was when mullets were in style, the mid-century custom of shagging the drag or, as it was sometimes called, scooping the loop is a popular choice for honoring Perry’s graduates.

Perry motorists drove in circles from 6-8 p.m. April 10 and remembered happy days, and this time they will drive to honor the virus-disrupted PHS Class of 2020.

A measure of normality might yet return when the PHS 2020 Graduation is held June 14 and the PHS 2020 Senior Prom is staged June 27. Both events are provisionally planned.
