About two dozen Perry-area peace officers, firefighters and paramedics gathered at the Perry Elementary School lunch room Saturday morning to begin the annual Shop with a Cop holiday gift event.
Before the families and public safety agents fanned out to local businesses, the first task was grabbing a doughnut and orange juice and making a wish list, with each young person pairing off with public safety agent to brainstorm gift ideas.
The youngsters first chose gifts for each member of their families before picking out things for themselves.
Once the shopping lists were complete, the shoppers and coppers hit the local stores, returning afterward to the Perry Elementary School to wrap the gifts for Christmas morning.
The festivities included 22 holiday meal packages, complete with turkeys and all the fixings.
Joining the Perry Police Department and the Perry Volunteer Fire Department in this year’s Shop with a Cop were paramedics with the Dallas County EMS.
