GRIMES — The Perry boys track team was missing numerous pieces Thursday and the impact showed in the standings, as the Bluejays finished sixth in the seven-team Mustang Invite with only 32 points.

Host DC-G won the meet with 146 points, with Urbandale second with 116 points. Gilbert (86) was third, with Carlisle (77), Winterset (45), Perry (32) and Chariton (24) following.

“A lot of runners were absent today for various reasons,” Perry head coach Ben Coy said. “We will have a week off before conference (May 7 at Bondurant), which I think will be physically and mentally good for us.”

Perry won the 4×400 in 3 minutes, 37.97 seconds, with Jose Castellanos, Alexis Garrido, Rashon Ivory and Adan Medina carrying the baton. Medina had earlier placed third in the 200 with a clocking of 24.25 seconds while Garrido had crossed sixth in the 400 in 56.41.

The distance medley foursome of Donald Chavez, Nic Fellom, Kaleb Olejncizak and Dane McCarty finished fourth in 4:13.11, with Mana Martinez, Shammond Ivory, Janier Puente and Chavez fifth in the 4×100 in 49.03 while Castellanos, Martinez, Olejniczak and Fellom teamed for sixth in the 4×200 in 1:42.64.

Shammond Ivory added 10 points to the Perry total with a win in the long jump after leaping 18 feet, 7 inches.

An unscored junior varsity meet was also held, with Alex Long winning the 800 in 2:16.96 and placing third in the 1600 in 5:22.26. Devon Archer had placed third in the 800 in 2:24.4, with Castellanos landing 14’9-1/2 from the pad for fifth place in the long jump.

The Bluejay JV was sixth in the 4×100 in 52.1 seconds. Running for Perry were Kiza Ndume, Zach Stewart, Mark Campos and Bradley Godwin.
