Showdown looms as Greene County visits OABCIG

IDA GROVE — The team with the fourth-highest playoff points (RPI) in Class 2A will host the team with the sixth-highest rating as OABCIG entertains Greene County at 7 p.m. Friday.

The winner will secure the District 9 championship and host a first-round playoff game, with the loser a certain lock for an at-large bid, although that will mean a road trip when the postseason begins Nov. 1. Both teams are 8-0 overall and 4-0 in district play.

Both teams sparkle statistically. OABCIG is third in 2A in passing with 2,098 yards and 31 touchdowns against just four interceptions. The Falcons have rushed for 1,190 yards and 19 scores, but boast an average of 9.2 yards per carry. They have scored 405 points, tops in 2A, and have outscored their district fores 187-21.

Greene County is third in total points with 352 and holds a 180-37 edge in district play. The Rams are sixth in passing with 27 TDs and 1,856 yards with only seven interceptions. The teams has 1,335 rushing yards (5.6 ypc) and 15 TDs on the ground.

Stopping OABCIG is all about containing quarterback Cooper DeJean. The 6-2, 197-pound junior is 125-192-3 for 2,036 yards and 30 TDs through the air while adding 678 yards and 14 scores on 57 carries.

Jake Nieman has been a prolific receiver, grabbing 48 passes for 864 yards and 13 TDs.

Brent Riley is 109-178-3 for 1,786 yards and 27 TDs through the air for Greene County. Carter Morton has 35 catches for 790 yards and 11 scores.

Colby Kafer has been almost the entire Ram running game, as his 1,131 yards is more than 1,000 more than the second-best on the squad. He has scored 11 times on 152 carries.

Game time is 7 p.m.
