With the holidays coming, the Shopko Foundation has kicked off its annual Help Us Give Back program, providing support to schools across the country and raising awareness of the budgetary challenges many school districts face.

“We recognize that education is fundamental to an individual’s health and functionality in society,” said Michelle Hansen, Shopko Foundation public relations manager. “During the holiday season, we encourage your community to join in the support and Help Us Give Back.”

The program works like this: Customers who visit the Perry Shopko Hometown store between now and Dec. 24 can simply sign their names to show their support, Hansen said. No donation or purchase is required. For each Help Us Give Back signature, the Shopko Foundation will donate $1 up to a maximum of $2,000.

Lynn Ubben Perry Community School District superintendent, said last year’s $2,000 donation provided an original book and CD for all of the Perry Elementary School third graders.

“We have also used this at the Middle School and High School to bring in special presenters and programs,” Ubben said. “Thanks to Shopko for all their continued support.”
