Local riders can keep their BRR momentum rolling on the stationary bicycles at the new Snap Fitness location at 509 First Ave. in Perry.

Snap Fitness, Perry’s 24-hour workout center, opened Feb. 1 at its new location at 509 First Ave., and members have responded enthusiastically to the new arrangements, according to Cherie Welch of Perry.

Welch has operated Snap Fitness with her husband and fellow Perry native, Shaun Welch, since 2009, first at the East Perry Plaza and now in the Iowa Highway 144 corridor.

“We have a new layout and a whole new look,” Welch said, standing inside the entrance of the newly remodeled workout space. She said they have also seen a bump in memberships.

The new Snap Fitness includes a 800-square-foot Fitness on Demand room, so if Kathryn Budig or Rodney Yee cannot come to Perry to teach a yoga class, Snap Fitness members can go to them, so to speak, thanks to a large-screen computer monitor and more than 200 different workouts.

“We have plenty of room in there for nice size classes and all the new spin bikes,” Welch said.

If yoga is not your cup of tea, then maybe Pilates or high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or Tai Chi or martial arts. Fitness on Demand has something for everyone aged 16 and older.

“Fitness on Demand puts us right in there with the biggest health clubs in the metro,” Welch said. “There are workouts on here for just about anything you can think of. This is a big technology shift for Perry’s Snap Fitness.”

For those people left longing for more bicycling after last week’s BRR Bike Ride to Rippey but put off by the cold outdoor temperatures, Snap’s new line of Livestrong stationary bikes might be the right substitute. Their black and gold colors will please Iowa Hawkeye fans.

Perry’s Snap Fitness is part of a network of workout centers, and members can use whichever Snap Fitness is most convenient. The Perry gym has about 300 members, Welch said, and while their location has changed, their membership rates have not.

There is no juice bar in Snap Fitness, but Welch said she is hopeful a complementary lifestyle business might open next door or elsewhere in the First Avenue plaza.

“This would be a great opportunity,” she said. “Perry’s really on the move.”
