Snow forecast overnight Friday, NWS says

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines has issued a winter weather advisory from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday, with accumulations of 2-5 inches of snow forecast overnight Friday.

The NWS advisory said a complex storm system will bring periods of light snow Friday night into Saturday morning, with impacts focused mainly Saturday morning as much of the snow will fall overnight.

Northeast winds of 15 to 20 mph may cause some minor blowing and drifting snow into Saturday morning.

Travelers should plan on slippery road conditions, with hazardous conditions possibly impacting the evening commute.

Along with Dallas County, the winter weather advisory applies to Boone, Story, Marshall, Tama, Audubon, Guthrie, Polk, Jasper, Poweshiek, Cass, Adair, Madison, Warren, Marion, Mahaska, Adams, Union, Clarke, Lucas, Monroe, Taylor, Ringgold and Decatur counties.

Along with Perry, the winter weather advisory applies to the cities of Boone, Ames, Marshalltown, Tama, Toledo, Traer, Dysart, Gladbrook, Audubon, Exira, Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee, Adel, Des Moines, Newton, Grinnell, Atlantic, Greenfield, Stuart, Adair, Fontanelle, Winterset, Earlham, Indianola, Norwalk, Carlisle, Pella, Knoxville,
Oskaloosa, Corning, Creston, Osceola, Chariton, Albia, Bedford, Lenox, New Market, Mount Ayr, Lamoni and Leon.
