Snow up to 4 inches forecast for Perry area Sunday, NWS says

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Johnston has issued a winter weather advisory from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday for the Perry area and much of Iowa.

The storm system is expected to bring mixed precipitation, with total snow accumulations
of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze, the NWS said. The band of moderate snow is forecast mainly along and north of U.S. Interstate 80.

Snow accumulations may approach one inch per hour at times. Lighter snow amounts are expected south of U.S. Interstate 80, but the precipitation might mix with freezing rain or drizzle and impact travel. The precipitation will diminish quickly by mid to late afternoon Sunday.

Along with Dallas County, the winter weather advisory is in effect in Audubon, Guthrie, Polk, Jasper and Poweshiek counties.

Along with Perry, the cities under the winter weather advisory include Audubon, Exira, Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee, Adel, Des Moines, Newton and Grinnell.
