With 90-degree heat forecast for Friday’s Independence Day celebrations, the seasoned members of two coffee groups braced themselves at the Hotel Pattee Thursday morning for the holiday heatwave.

The Women of Wonder (WOW) were represented by Donna Emmert, Shirley Ehlers, Kathy Fox, Lois Hoger, Connie McGuire, Karol Mueller, Jan Smith, Georgia Szwargulski-Draeger and Myrna Whitehead.

Gearing up in the Society of Retired Experts (SORE) were John Andorf, Nick Eakins, Ken Finer, Ray Harden, Louis Hoger, Larry Laborde, Don Ruggle and Richard Wede.

A motion was moved to combine, in recognition of the imminent advent of a sausage factory in Perry, the coffee groups under the acronym SOW, as if SORE plus WOW yields SOW. The motion died for lack of a second.

Daniel Graney and Mylah Meis of the Hotel Pattee coffeehouse kept everyone topped off.
