The Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce announced Monday the cancellation of the Adel Sweet Corn Festival in August.
The Adel Partners said the decision was made after “considerable discussion and in consultation with the city of Adel and the governor of Iowa.”
The chamber statement said substantial community spread of COVID-19 will likely still be occurring in August, making social distancing difficult for the thousands of visitors and volunteers who attend the annual sweet corn celebration.
The board of directors’ statement said they also “needed to focus on the health and safety of the over 250 volunteers that make the event successful.”
The 42nd annual Adel Sweet Corn Festival hopes to return in August 2021, the chamber of commerce said.
