KIMBALLTON — Exira/Elk Horn-Kimabllton’s three-run fifth inning proved to be just enough to help carry the Spartans (9-11) to a 5-4 non-conference win over Panorama (13-10) Friday.

The hosts led, 2-1, after one inning before using a three-run fifth frame to open a 5-1 gap.

That proved just enough, as the Panthers added three runs of their own in the top of the sixth to draw within 5-4. Unfortunately for the guests they were unable to scratch across a least a tying run in their final at-bat and suffered the loss.

Hunter Holmes started and went four frames on the mound for Panorama. He allowed three runs on three hits and two walks, with Dominic Walker touched for two runs on three hits and four free passes in two innings of relief. Walker was assessed the loss and finished with one strikeout, with Holmes having fanned four.

Levi Richey had two singles, a stolen base and scored once for the guests. Brice Taylor, Drew Taylor, Evan Taylor, Koltin Sloss and Walker each had one hit, with Brice Taylor driving in two runs and Drew Taylor one and Walker one each. Evan Taylor and Walker also had stolen bases, with Evan Taylor, Drew Taylor and Walker each scoring once.

Josh Pettepier threw five innings for the Spartans, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits. He struck out six, the Tyler Petersen pitching the final two stanzas.

Petersen had three doubles for E/EH-K, driving in a pair of runs.

Panorama will play a varsity doubleheader at WCAC opponent Van Meter tonight before hosting Coon Rapids-Bayard Thursday.
