The Perry Kiwanis Club met Tuesday at the Hotel Pattee for their weekly meeting and heard a talk by Jessica Nelsen, mission initiatives manager with the Iowa affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a national organization that addresses breast cancer on multiple fronts, such as research, community health, global outreach and public policy initiatives.
They are the only organization in the U.S. devoted exclusively to battling breast cancer in this comprehensive way, Nelsen said.
Nelsen spoke about breast cancer statistics, noting the disease predominates in females but can also strike males. She described Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s purpose as an organization, its history and the many events it sponsors and grants it gives out.
