Receiving candy and treats instead of cheese was just fine with these mice, who were clearly enjoying Friday's SPOOK-tacular in downtown Perry.

The Perry Chamber of Commerce’s annual SPOOK-tacular was a big hit for Halloween revelers of all ages Friday, with an estimated crowd of more than 800 youngsters showing off their holiday costumes.

The downtown businesses along Second Street, as well as the Hotel Pattee, Popcorn Stand and Perry Public Library, were all destinations for youngsters looking to scare up a cache of candy and treats.

New this year — and proving quite popular — were journeys through the DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy, where students decorated rooms and distributed treats.

After careful consideration, this young ladybug opted to take a sucker out of the candy bucket.

ThePerryNews.com Sports Editor Jeff Webster secured a perch along Second Street and handed out candy while snapping numerous photos of the cute, the cuddly, the scary and the frightening. Publisher and Editor Jim Caufield made the rounds, clicking away up and down Second Street and in the DMACC campus.

Video clips from all the fun can be found below, with 140 (!) photos in a slideshow following.
