Spring programming at Perry Public Library announced

The Perry Public Library has released details about several onsite and online programs planned for the springtime in Perry.

The library will celebrate National Library Week April 4-10 with free goodie bags, and patrons will have a chance to win prizes in a scavenger hunt. This year’s theme is Welcome to Your Library!

The library will host a renovation ribbon cutting Wednesday, April 7 at 8:30 a.m. Patrons will see the newly renovated spaces and browse the reading materials, movies, audiobooks, games, literacy bags, Hotspots and more. Many of the library’s free resources can also be accessed on the Perry Public Library website.

“We look forward to your visit, but please remember to wear a mask and practice social distancing, as we incrementally move closer to post-pandemic times.” said Perry Public Library Director Mary Murphy.

Wee Wonders recorded programs for babies 0-18 months old are posted on the first and third Thursdays of the month on the Perry Public Library website. The April programs will be posted April 1 and April 15 and will include songs, finger plays, simple stories and developmentally appropriate activities.

Registered participants also receive free parent handouts and a free book for each session, available for pickup when the library is open. To register, call 515-465-3569 or email skestel@perry.lib.ia.us to register.

Wednesday, April 7 will bring Ms. Suzanne’s Books and Bites program for first and second graders at 3 p.m. Youngsters will listen to the story, “The Best Nest,” by P. D. Eastman will construct an edible nest for our snack.

The Books and Bites program is a free, live Zoom program, but registration is required by Monday, April 5 in order to receive the activity/snack kit. To register, call the library at 515-465-3599, or register online on the Perry Public Library website.

April brings four Sweet Tweets Storytime units for children ages 2 to 5 at 10:15 a.m. on April 7, 14, 21 and 28. During the live zoom programs with Ms. Suzanne, children will learn all about birds, such as owls, flamingos, songbirds and birds that live in Iowa. Stories, songs, games, simple crafts and pre-literacy activities will be incorporated into the programs, and activity kits are included.
