Panorama boys soccer coach Matt Fronapfel figured a good way to exercise his team last week was to shovel off the synthetic turf on Panther field to clear the way for some outdoor practice time. When Monday arrives, it will herald the beginning of official practices for high school girls soccer teams across Iowa.

Both boys and girls golf and boys soccer have been underway since March 11, with the boys and girls track seasons having long since begun spring preparations.

Weather is, of course, the bane of spring sports, especially golf. Area teams have been focusing on techniques and putting as best as they can while waiting for courses and driving ranges to become available.

The recent spate of warmer temperatures have helped to clear playing surfaces and allowed for some outdoor activity. Now, just as the temperatures rise and sunny skies reappear, some players vanish as teams adjust to rosters altered by some families leaving on spring break trips.

For Perry the outdoor track season begins March 28, when they host the Davis Relays at Kaufman track. Both Panorama track teams will attend after opening their season March 25 at Earlham, with the Woodward-Granger thinclads starting their season March 29 at the Winterset Relays, which will be held in Van Meter due to construction.

The Bluejay golfers will begin play April 2 with a visit from Ballard while the Jayettes will join Norwalk in teeing up at Ballard April 2. Both W-G golf squads host AC/GC and Ogden April 1, with both Panorama teams visiting Madrid that day.

The Perry boys soccer team will host a tournament March 30 at Dewey Field before visiting Winterset, at Earlham, April 2. The Perry girls host Winterset April 2. Panorama’s boys pitchmen host Tri-Center March 28, with both Panther soccer teams entertaining Des Moines Hoover April 1.
