St. Patrick’s middle school students volunteer in community

Volunteers are needed to help those less fortunate Wednesday, April 4 at the Perry Lutheran Home's Meals From the Heartland event. Openings for volunteers are still available in the 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. shifts.

St. Patrick’s Catholic School students in grades six, seven and eight spent part of the spring completing acts of mercy for the Roman Catholic Church’s Year of Mercy, which began Dec. 8, 2015 and ends Nov. 20, 2016.
Darcy Spellman, Social Studies and Religion instructor at St. Patrick’s, said students stayed busy completing acts of mercy throughout the Perry community.
Among the activities the students participated in were visiting the Perry Lutheran Home and Rowley Masonic community, where they played games, colored pictures and visited with many of the residents. Students also shared their generosity by packaging meals for Meals From the Heartland at the Perry Lutheran Home.
“These students have learned a lot about the importance of helping others and sharing the love that God has for us with others in our community,” Spellman said.
