Dallas County historian Rod Stanley of Dexter entertained about a dozen people Sunday afternoon at the Forest Park Museum in Perry with tales of once-popular settlements across the county that today are virtually forgotten.
Stanley discussed three examples at length — the Kennedy Station, Panther and Wiscotta — and he sprinkled in reflections on many other ghost towns and settlements that were once hives of activity, such as the Ortonville Circus and the Dexfield Park.
Stanley is perhaps best known for his accounts of the 1933 Bonnie and Clyde shootout in Dexfield Park and its aftermath, including the death of Buck Barrow at King’s Daughters Hospital in Perry.
