Comic book superheroes posed with Jorge Ramirez, 8, and Christopher Torres, 5, of Perry Tuesday at the Perry Public Library.

Wonder Woman and Spiderman, charter members of the Iowa League of Heroes, appeared at the Perry Public Library Tuesday evening for some quality time with area youngsters and their parents.

The superheroes’ visit was part of the library’s summer reading theme: Every hero has a story.

“The kids were very excited with the superheroes,” said Suzanne Kestel, children’s librarian at the Perry Public Library, “and the actors really stayed in character well. You could the kids really loved it.”

The library has events planned through the summer. For example, teens enrolled in the summer reading program can see a free movie screening of “The Avengers” this Friday, June 12 at 2 p.m. in the library’s large community room. Snacks will be provided.

It is not too late to sign up for the summer reading program, and everyone is invited and encouraged to participate. For more information or to sign up, call Misty VonBehren at the library at 515-465-3569.
