A two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 169 at the Dallas County-Boone County line about 12:45 a.m. Thursday began when a motorist swerved to avoid a deer.

A driver swerved to avoid a deer crossing U.S. Highway 169 early Thursday and rolled her vehicle, which was then struck by a second vehicle just north of 120th Place in Boone County.

Deputy sheriffs from both Dallas and Boone counties responded to the incident, which occurred about 12:45 a.m. Thanksgiving morning.

There were no injuries in the mishap. One of the drivers was transported to the Boone County Jail on a charge of OWI.

The driver of a semi-tractor trailer was first on the scene of the two-car accident. He said once the vehicle that swerved to miss the deer hit the loose gravel of the shoulder, the vehicle overturned and eventually came to rest in the roadway.

The truck driver said the driver of the overturned car wisely left the vehicle and made her way to the side of the road shortly before her vehicle was struck by another oncoming motorist’s vehicle.

The Boone County Sheriff’s office was the lead agency in the incident. The Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Woodward Volunteer Fire Department, Woodward First Responders and Dallas County EMS also responded.
