Sydna “Bert” Hansen, 82, of Perry died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Perry. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Sydna “Bert” Alberta Hansen was born July 19, 1933, at DeSoto, Iowa, to William J. and Sydna May (Edgington) Petty.
She graduated from Perry High School with the class of 1950.
She was united in marriage to Harvey D. Hansen Jan. 14, 1951, at Christ Lutheran Church in Bouton.
Bert worked as a housewife and farm wife for many years. She later worked as the librarian at Perry Public Library and then took a position at Von Maur in West Des Moines.
Bert was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Perry.
She loved her family and enjoyed reading and traveling.
Bert is preceded in death by her parents, William and Sydna Petty; and three sisters, Helen Jordan, Mildred Dvorak and Ruth Lapp.
Survivors include her daughter, Laurie Mills of Redfield; son, Brian (Cindy) Hansen of Grimes; sister, Mabel Wright of Lakeland, Fla.; brother, Robert (Marjorie) Petty of Pilot Mound; grandchildren, Andrea (Joe) Szymczyk, Jeffrey (Rosa) Hansen, Cathy Walters, Kristen Hansen, Mark (Sarah) Mills, Katherine (Alan) Kent and Scott (Taylor) Mills; and nine great-grandchildren.
