A dozen Perry High School art students will exhibit their paintings, drawings and sculpture in the third annual PHS fine arts reception Friday, April 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the PHS Brady Library.

The artists exhibiting their work are Brian Amaya, Fernando Catalan, Mariah Duffy, Zoe Gordon, Emma King, Victoria Hegstrom, Javier Miranda, Kyle Neuhalfen, Paige Peitzman, Htwar Reh, Anna Saenz and Carigan Studer.

The reception and exhibition will showcase the work of PHS fine art students and give their friends, family, parents and other supporters of artists and lovers of art a chance to enjoy light refreshments and local music.

PHS art instructor Jill Belgarde said students work hard in her art classes and show great talent. She said she expects some of the students will go on to study art in college.

This is the third annual PHS art show, and Belgarde not only teaches the young artists but is herself a performance artist, singing in the band Exit 113, which will perform at the reception.

“That’s the Van Meter exit” off of US Interstate 80, Belgarde said of the band’s name. She said the group is led by her former high school music teacher, guitarist Bob Long, and many of the members attended Van Meter High School.

“I thought this was a good way to show my appreciation for my students and share the fine arts with the community,” Belgarde said.
