Thirsty footballers asking for sports drink donations

Fans of Perry football are asked to make a donation of sports drinks when attending Friday's annual Blue-and-White scrimmage at Dewey Field.

Multiple activities will surround the Perry football team’s annual Blue-and-White scrimmage Friday, but the price of admission is one that will also go a long way in serving a team need.

Fans are asked to bring a sports drink — the more the merrier — as their ‘ticket’ to the festivities, which will begin at 5 p.m. The team uses the sports drinks for away games, and all donations are appreciated.

Perry will officially open their season August 24 when they host Greene County for the 87th Cowbell Game. The visiting Rams scored in the final seconds of regulation last season to force overtime, but Perry prevailed on a German Alvarenga field goal in overtime, 17-14, to seize the longest-contested trophy in Iowa high school athletics.

Exultant Perry players ring the Cowbell Trophy (above German Alvarenga, 3) at Dewey Field last year. Perry will host Greene County August 24 in the 87th playing of the Cowbell Game.
