Perry High School sophomore Zach Thompson (120) handily won his first match Friday, 6-3, in state wrestling competition at Well Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
He advances to semi-final competition at 8:45 p.m. tonight, guaranteed at least a sixth-place finish.
