Three Hawks named All-District, seven earn All-WCAC honors

GRANGER — A junior laden Woodward-Granger baseball team had numerous players earn accolades for their play this season. The Hawks finished 23-8 overall and 16-6 in WCAC action, they were 19-10, 13-5 in 2018.

All-District teams consider players statistics from the entire season, while All-WCAC lists use only those numbers generated in league play.

Junior Alex Bice was a Class 2A Central All-District First Team choice. He was 5-1 with a save in 44-2/3 total innings. Bice struck out 49 and walked 19 while allowing opponents to hit just .149. He finished with a 1.88 ERA.

Shortstop Reese Jamison was named All-District First Team as well. He had 44 hits including 13 doubles and a home run with 30 RBIs and 34 runs scored. Jamison hit .458, had an on-base percentage of .560 and stole 17-of-21 bases.

Senior Joe Rhodes was selected as the All-District Second Team third baseman. He hit .344 with eight doubles and 25 singles while driving in 32 runs and scoring 19 times.

Bice and Jamison were both All-WCAC First Team selections as well. The former was 3-1 with a save in 24 frames. The opposition hit only 1.87 and Bice fanned 26 while walking 11 and posting a 1.75 ERA.

Jamison led the WCAC with 35 hits, was second with a .515 average and third with a .596 on-base clip. He had 24 RBIs, 23 runs, nine doubles, a home run and was 16-of-19 while attempting to steal a base.

Rhodes and juniors Bryce Achenbach and Brandon Worley were all chosen for the All-WCAC Second Team.

Rhodes hit .313 with six doubles and 15 singles. He had 23 RBIs and 15 runs.

Achenbach, picked in the outfield, had a double and a triple among 21 hits. He scored 13 runs, drove in 11 and batted .350 while swiping 15-of-16 bags.

Worley was name for his efforts toeing the rubber. He was 2-2 in 22-1/3 innings, sporting a 2.82 ERA and allowing batters to hit .260. Worley finished with 23 strikeouts and only six walks.

Junior Jack Grell and sophomore Worth Henry was Honorable Mention picks on the All-WCAC lists.

Grell had 14 hits, 20 runs and 12 RBIs while batting .269, with Henry providing 17 hits and both scoring and driving in 15 runs. Henry was safe on all 11 of his stolen base attempts, with Grell safe on each of his nine tries at theft.
