Three Story City residents, including an 11-year-old child, were killed Sunday night in northern Hardin County when a wrong-way driver on U.S. Highway 20 struck their vehicle head on.

Three Story City residents, including an 11-year-old child, were killed Sunday night in northern Hardin County when a wrong-way driver on U.S. Highway 20 struck their vehicle head on.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, Spencer Bultman, 25, of Hampton was traveling east in the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 20 near the 162 mile marker at County Road S27 in a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche.

Christy Gutierres, 44, of Story City was traveling westward in a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox when her vehicle was struck head on by Bultman’s vehicle about 7:30 p.m.

Gutierres was killed in the crash along with Mario Zubia, 38, of Story City and Jessie Gutierres, 11, of Story City.

Isabel Gutierres, 6, of Story City was transported by air ambulance to MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

All the victims in Gutierres’ vehicle were wearing seat belts, according to the crash report.

Bultman was transported by ground to Van Diest Medical Center. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The Iowa State Patrol, Alden First Responders, Buckeye First Responders, Iowa Fallas Fire Department, Iowa Falls EMS and Mercy Lifeflight responded.
