Thanks to first-rate safety gear, such as his Bell motorcycle helmet and First Gear cycling jacket, Tony Tice of rural Perry survived a collision Monday night when his motorcycle struck a deer on G Avenue is Boone County.
“He is banged up but will be okay,” said Tice’s sister, Cheri Tice Scheib of rural Perry. “Four broken ribs can’t keep him down, and he is still as hard headed as he always was.”
Tice said her brother is happily accepting private Facebook messages while recuperating. She was adamant about the importance of her brother’s gear in saving his life and reducing his serious injuries.
“This is the reason Tony Tice is alive, and his First Gear coat is the reason he escaped having road rash!” she said, pointing to her brother’s badly damaged outerwear.
Tony Tice is a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, having competed successfully in motocross and similar events for many years. His sister fondly recalled the days when their father, Ray Tice of Perry, used to race go-carts, and the kids would sit in the go-carts. She dates her brother’s life as a “gearhead” to those early experiences.
“His humor has been appreciated by the nurses,” Cheri said, “and he thanks everyone involved in any way, shape or form with giving him help. His family can’t begin to express their gratitude, but we can tell you this: All gear all the time! Helmets save lives!”
