MADRID — Host Madrid outscored Woodward-Granger, 42-16, over the middle 16 minutes of their Class 2A playoff opener Monday to help build a 77-45 victory.

The Hawks (2-20) were able to stay within a point, down 16-14, after the first period, but the Tigers (13-9) clamped down defensively and outscored their guests, 20-7, in the second frame to enter the intermission with a 36-21 lead.

Unfortunately for W-G, the onslaught continued after the break, as a 22-9 bulge over the next eight minutes created a 58-30 gap on the scoreboard with one period to play.

Sinjun Harshabarger led the home team with 23 points, with 14 points from Luke Hudnutt and 11 from Josh Henricksen helping to set the tone. Michael Santi had eight points and Cade Kirkpatrick seven, with six points provided by Trevor Mertz, four from Carson Polich and two each from Landen Burke and Coy Kirkpatrick.

Hudnutt had 10 rebounds, six assists and five blocks, with Harshbarger collecting seven boards and making four steals while Henricksen had six caroms. Polich provided four assists and Santi three to aid the hosts.

Nick Squires had 20 points for W-G in his final game for the Hawks. The lone senior on the team also provided five rebounds.

Marcus McConahay and Brady Aunspach each had five points and Brendan Bird four, with Derick Morgan adding three points. Grant Krichel, Cameron Hoyt, Bodie Harrison and Brody Easter provided two points apiece for W-G.
