GILBERT — The Woodward-Granger baseball team was shut out for only the fourth time this season in suffering a 6-0 non-conference loss to Gilbert Tuesday.

The Tiger (17-11) were on the board with two runs in the first inning before crossing the plate three times in their next at-bat. A single tally in the sixth capped the scoring.

Cole Theisen went 2.2 frames, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out one. Matt Buch tossed 3.1 innings of relief, yielding a run on one hit and three walks.

Reese Jamison had two singles, a walk and a stolen base for the Hawks (14-10), with Race Brant, Marcus McConahay and Bryce Achenbach also adding base hits.

Steven Lawrence was 2-for-4 with two runs and Nick Day 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI to spark Gilbert, with Nathan Chasey adding a two-run triple.

W-G will conclude their regular season by hosting Audubon tonight, with Colfax-Mingo to visit Granger Friday.
