Volunteers in the Perry Holiday Toy Drive joined forces Monday at Crossroads Church in Perry, where the hundreds of toys collected since Nov. 18 were brought together, sorted and packaged for Christmas deliveries.

“We collected something from all of the sites where boxes were placed,” said volunteer Linda Andorf. “Some sites were given two boxes and returned five or six full boxes — very generous businesses!”

A delivery of toys from the U.S. Marine Corps arrived Monday afternoon, and then the sorting and pulling began in earnest. About 122 families in the Perry area, including more than 300 children, will receive the holiday gifts this year, Andorf said.

The sorting and packaging was accomplished in coordination Brandi Valdez and Carole Bayer of the New Opportunities Dallas County Family Development Center.

Helping to sort and pull toys were volunteers John and Linda Andorf, Lisa Battani, Bob and Betty Hunt, Mary Kautzky and Pat Mundy.

Lunch for the elfs was provided by Pizza Hut, Subway and Casey’s.

“We want to thank all of the generous people in our community who helped to create a successful Holiday Toy Drive,” said Andorf. “We also want to thank Crossroads Church and Pastor Gates for allowing us to use his church for the event.”
