Toreadors fend off Jayettes in regular season finale

BOONE — The 2015 regular season ended on a down note for the Perry volleyball team as host Boone claimed a 3-0 win in Raccoon River Conference play Thursday.

Boone squeaked to a 26-24 win in game one, then posted a 25-19 win in the second game. A 25-16 game three win ended the match.

Jo Diw, Taylor Lathrum and Ellie Nielsen each had three digs for the Jayettes, with Adrian Thompson adding three kills, Victoria Hegstrom two and Sid Vancil one. Vancil had nine assists in the loss, with Nielsen providing eight and Thompson one.

Syd Guerra, Nielsen and Vancil tallied seven digs apiece, with Diw and Mariah Duffy contributing six digs apiece while Hegstrom had five and Lathrum one. Diw, Lathrum and Thompson all had one block each.

Diw served 14-of-16 with two aces, with Nielsen 8-9-1 and Guerra 8-8-1. Hegstrom was 9-of-10 behind the line, Vancil 8-of-9 and Lathrum 5-of-7.

Perry will face host DC-G Monday in a Class 4A Region 2 First Round game. The winner advances to face host and second-ranked Harlan, the defending state champion, Thursday. The Regional Final will be Nov. 3 in Guthrie Center, with Des Moines Hoover, Winterset and Bondurant-Farrar on the bottom half of the bracket. All matches will start at 7 p.m.
