Toreadors netters sweep Jayettes

BOONE — A 3-0 sweep Tuesday gave Boone their first win in 10 matches while visiting Perry fell to 2-1 with the loss. The Toreadors claimed the Raccoon River Conference match with wins of 22-25, 25-20 and 25-18.

Poor serving plagued Perry in the setback, as the team combined to convert just 42-of-54 serves, an efficiency clip of just .778. The team had five total aces.

Kacy Nevitt led Perry with 10 kills, with Jasmine Shriver adding four kills and Quinn Whiton three. Whiton had all 15 assists for the visitors.

Magley Orellana’s 15 digs were a team-high, with Shriver making 10 digs and Whiton and Ashley Cerna six apiece. Nevitt provided four digs, with Jayna Kenney and Peyton Tunink making one dig each.

Nevitt served 9-of-11 with one ace, with Cerna 8-13-1 and Whiton 9-9-2. Orellana was 5-7-1 behind the line, with Shriver converting 6-of-7 and Kenney 5-of-7.

Katie Winter had 11 kills and 12 assists for Boone, with Emily Ades and Samantha Hullgren seven kills apiece. Winter served 9-10-2 and Ades 5-7-2. Boone was 66-of-72 (.917) with six aces while serving.

Perry returns to action Sept. 10 with a visit from ADM before hosting the Jayette Invite Sept. 12. Coon Rapids-Bayard, Des Moines North, Earlham, Ogden and Panorama are all slated to compete in the event.
