BOONE — An 11-run third inning sent Boone flying past visiting Perry, 15-5, in 4-1/2 innings of Raccoon River Conference play Thursday.
A ground out, and sacrifice fly gave Boone a 2-0 lead after one inning, with a bases-loaded walk plating the third Toreador run of the game in the second.
Perry closed to within 3-2 in the top of the third when Janier Puente doubled, with courtesy runner Kaleb Olejniczak racing home on a Nic Fellom double. Fellom later scored on an error to draw Perry to within a run.
Boone responded with a huge inning, as six runs scored on four singles, with a bases loaded walk plating another run before Drew Wilber hit a grand slam to center field as the score ballooned to 14-2 in favor of the hosts.
Puente ripped a three-run home run in the top of the fourth to make it 14-5, but Boone pushed a run across in their next at-bat, and when Perry failed to score in the top of the fifth the game ended via the 10-run rule.
Puente started and was handed the loss. He allowed four runs (two earned) on two hits but walked five while striking out two. Kade VanKirk was roughed up for nine runs on five hits and three walks while recording one out, with Adan Medina yielding a run on a hit and a hit batsman while tossing two-thirds of an inning. Alex Long threw one frame, allowing a run on one hit and a walk.
Dresden Wilson surrendered five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks in five innings to collect the win. He finished with six strikeouts.
Kyle Nevitt and Medina also had hits for Perry in the loss.
Perry hosts ADM tonight at Progressive Field and will play Saturday at Greenfield in the Nodaway Valley Tournament before hosting Carlisle Monday.
