Tornado warnings issued for central Iowa

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a tornado warning for northeastern Marion County, northwestern Mahaska County and south-central Jasper County until 4:45 p.m.

At 3:53 p.m. a confirmed tornado was located 4 miles southeast of Monroe, or 7 miles northwest of Pella, moving southeast at 25 mph. The tornado will be near Pella around 4:05 p.m.

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Pella Municipal Airport.

The NWS has also issued a tornado warning for northeastern Story County, southeastern Hardin County, northern Marshall County and southwestern Grundy County until 4:45 p.m.

At 3:54 p.m. a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 10 miles northwest of State Center or 13 miles northeast of Nevada, moving east at 25 mph.

This dangerous storm will be near arshalltown and Conrad around 4:40 p.m.

Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.
