As predicted by the National Weather Service offices in Des Moines, the Perry area was hit by heavy rains and a severe thunderstorm that began Thursday night about 9:15 p.m.

Marilyn K. Winchell Schirman reported a power outage on west Willis Avenue, and Corey J. Ulferts and Elizabeth Schmitz reported power losses on First Avenue north of the Progressive Foundry and westward along Willis Avenue.
Donna VanKirk reported power out by 16th Street and Weise Park, and Jess Kat Dietz said the lights were out at Second and Central streets.
