The eagle perches nobly atop the figure, and the bear sits below, looking a little abashed as if she just got pushed off a wall by a dog-loving teenage girl.

Bellis said sealant will be applied to the carving yearly to protect it from weathering.

“This will be here long after we’re gone,” he said. “But at least we started something.”
