A transformer failed in the 1200 block of Iowa Highway 141 about 4 a.m. Sunday, turning the power pole into a kind of firework of sparks, smoke and a glowing blue flame.
No injuries were reported.
Officers of the Perry Police Department responded to the electrical hazard and stood by until an Alliant Energy crew arrived to make repairs.
